Born in the North in 1949, but I have been a Texan since 1976. I started drawing at 14 when
after making my first sketch (in 7th grade study hall), the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen
walked by and said, “that’s good, can I have it?” Mind you, it was an awful drawing, but with
my heart racing, I managed to fumble it into her hand. Then, and this is where my “Artist”
carrier started, I said I’ll draw you another one. Then it was another and another and
another… By the time that first love had ended, I had actually improved enough to feel
that maybe I could really be an artist. So, some years later, here I am. Self taught,
and in some respect it shows, but what the heck, I try. So that’s the art part, here comes
the model bit.
I actually made a living at being an artist on and off for several years. It then became
necessary for me to “get a job”. I knew if I was to be confined some place other than my
studio for 8 to 10 hours a day, it had better be something I would really enjoy. Sitting
at the kitchen table I asked myself “what do you really like to do?” The answer was, “I like
to build and make things.” So I picked up the yellow pages and looked up model builders.
I was amazed to see that there were several shops in the Dallas area. I contacted the closest
shop to my home and arranged an interview with the owner (a really nice guy). After looking
at my art portfolio, he actually gave me a job building models. That was back in 1984.
I have been doing the art and model building thing ever since.
In January of 2003, my wife Vickie and I started our own custom frame shop and art gallery. We call it
Texas Art & Frame. Now I have a place to display my work and a way to afford framing it. The local
community appreciated the quality of the framing we provide, and they don't have to drive to Dallas to get it.
When we entered the framing business, I recognized a need to make a difficult task easier, and invented the tool
that this site is linked to.
